On the golf course, golf carts are the primary means of transportation aside from walking.  Golf carts are convenient and easy to use by everyone.  The use of the golf cart makes traveling across the golf course quick and painless.  Typically, most golf courses use electric powered golf carts as opposed to gas powered golf carts.  Several factors influence this decision, but more than likely they choose electric due to its quiet use.

There are many large corporations that look to golf carts in order to help move people across large sites where businesses are located.  For example, so much time can be saved by using a golf cart to travel across the worksite as opposed to walking by foot.  If the need to go back and forth the workplace frequently, the amount of time saved by using the golf cart could be worth alot of money to the company compared to someone always walking.

Another thing that makes the same course different every day is the weather conditions. Weather plays a big factor in golf, and how a course plays. A wet course will play slower and the ball will not travel as far after hitting the ground. On a dry course, the ball will roll farther after hitting the turf. 

A course will also play differently in hot or cold weather. Colder weather keeps the ball from traveling as far, while a well hit ball will go further on a warm or hot day. Additionally, if an area has been dry for any length of time, the fairways, unless they are watered heavily every day, will become as hard as concrete and provide extra distance once the ball hits the ground.

Then comes the golfer’s attitude. Yes, the frame of mind a golfer is in will have a direct affect on how well he or she plays and reacts to the course. Golf is a game requiring a calm, focused mind, so the player can concentrate on what he or she is trying to do on any particular shot.

One other thing that will make the same course play differently is how the grounds are kept. If the fairway is allowed to grow a little long, balls will not be able to roll as far, whereas, if they are kept trimmed close to the ground, the ball will roll further. 

The rough is a whole other problem, as are other obstacles on the course, such as sprinkler heads. The rough is always going to be thick and hard to play out of, but a heavy, wet rough makes it almost impossible for a golfer to do much more than simply attempt to chip back onto the fairway. Sprinkler heads, which are positioned all over the course, will have an adverse affect on a ball that happens to hit them.

Believe it or not, who a person is playing with, or if he or she is playing alone when he or she normally plays with someone else will affect the way the course is played. So, this only goes to show how the same course, no matter how many times a person plays it, is never the same course twice.

There are many definitions to learn when taking up the game of golf. Stimping is one that may or may not be important because usually those who play in professional tournaments or those who play more often are concerned about it. Stimping refers to the speed of the golf course or how fast a golf ball will travel on the course after it lands. You need to know how the green is stimping when trying to improve your score or when learning more about gauging how hard to hit the ball.

A stimping meter is used to determine how fast your golf ball will travel on the green. This meter is simply a ramp that is set up on the green. Golf balls are rolled down the ramp and measured in eight different directions to determine the average number of feet the ball rolled before it stopped. Most golf courses have a stimping rating of 10 or 12, which means that the ball rolled 10 to 12 feet before stopping. When you are golfing, keep this number in mind so you can make sure you don't overshoot the green once the ball has landed.

Small golf courses may have a stimping rate that is lower than professional courses. This can be because their artificial grasses are not as good as those used on professional courses or because they are using real grasses instead of artificial turf. You may want to ask at the pro shop the stimping level and the types of grasses used in order to get a better idea of how to play.

Because weather and the time of year you want to golf differ, the stimping level may be different. If you play a bad game and are used to playing on a course that has a higher or lower stimping level, this may explain some of your issues. On the other hand, there may have been too much wind or wet grass to contend with that day.

If you are a new golfer, the level of stimping may not mean that much to you. Focus instead on improving your swing before moving on the weather conditions and other obstacles. By perfecting your swing and your putting technique, you will be able to overcome many other obstacles on the course. Just like in any sport, for example, foot ball, it would be ridiculous for a foot ball fan to where a tuxedo or his/her pajamas to a game.

-Wearing improper or uncomfortable gear on the golf course. Improper gear such as, tee shirts with word phrases or sayings that have nothing to do with golf such as:  ‘I’ve been married to my ball and chain for 20 years….HELP!’ should not be worn on the course. When in doubt…stick to plain golf shirts with neutral shades such as white, beige, red, black purple and grey.

Another big no-no is wearing a shirt and tie with slacks and your everyday office shoes is in appropriate gear and should be saved for your next corporate meeting, not a golf game.

-Good manners are not just for the dinning room table or your favorite restaurant.’ Before your first day on the course, make sure that you eat healthy. Save the chili hotdogs for the Super Bowl. Stay away from foods that cause gas and other ailments.

Make sure that you do not skip your meals. It would be tragic if you fainted and had to be carried to the hospital in a stretcher.
